Director of Recreational Development - (Indianapolis, Indiana)

USA of Indiana (USAI) is seeking a passionate and driven leader to serve as Director of Recreational Development. This seasonal part-time position oversees the coaching and player development side of our Recreational Program across the Pike, Hendricks, and Mooresville divisions.

The Director will recruit, train, and support volunteer coaches while strengthening alignment within USAI’s player pathway (Rec → Rising Stars → Travel). This is a hands-on, field-based leadership role focused on improving coaching consistency, enhancing the family experience, and increasing long-term player retention.

USA of Indiana hosted Depauw's Women's Assistant Soccer Coach Beth Cook, Indiana University Indianapolis' Women's Soccer Head Coach Angela Berry White, Manchester University's Men's Head Coach Olaoluwade Ladapo, USA of Indiana Travel Coach Sean McGrath, and USA of Indiana's Director of Coaching and Academy Director, Coach Isang Jacob at Pike High School for College Information Night.

These coaches shared valuable insight into what it truly means to pursue college soccer and how to prepare for the opportunities and challenges ahead. The conversation centered not only on athletics, but on the bigger picture of becoming a well-rounded student-athlete.

Here are just a few of the highlights from this year’s panel discussion:

Academics Matter. Your performance in the classroom is just as important as your performance on the field. Coaches emphasized that being a student-athlete means prioritizing your education. Choose a school not only for the soccer program, but for the degree opportunities, academic support, and overall campus environment. Ask yourself: Can I see myself here if soccer were no longer part of the equation?

Think Long-Term. The next four years will help shape the rest of your life. Soccer may open doors, but your degree, experiences, and relationships will carry you forward long after your playing career ends. Evaluate all factors carefully — campus culture, coaching staff, academics, financial commitment, and personal fit.

Character Counts. Coaches shared that they look beyond talent. They notice how players respond to mistakes, how they celebrate success, how they treat teammates, officials, and opponents, and who they are off the field. Body language, coachability, resilience, and integrity all matter.

Understand the Financial Picture. College is an investment. Families were encouraged to consider the financial component of their decision, understand scholarship realities, and ask questions about aid packages and long-term affordability.

Know the Recruiting Process. The panel reviewed general recruiting guidelines, timelines, and communication expectations. Being proactive, organized, and respectful in communication can make a significant difference throughout the process.

We are grateful to our coaching panel who took the time to pour into our student-athletes and families. Their honesty and perspective provided clarity and encouragement for those beginning — or continuing — their college soccer journey.

United Soccer Alliance of Indiana 2025 Annual Awards

We’re pleased to recognize some of your Club's exceptional volunteers and coaches in 2025. Thank you for your nominations and comments. If you know these folks, will you please help congratulate them? Key to the Club’s success is the army of parent volunteers who run the Club and welcome our 30,000 guests each year. Special thanks to the Club’s Board of Directors and every Recreation League Coach for children ages 2-20.

Recreation League Coach of the Year Serving 2000+ children, 250+ teams, and 260+ volunteer Recreation coaches, there are often too many great Recreation Coaches to recognize each year. These coaches were each nominated by several parents via season end survey Fall 2025.

Jason Swanbeck Joined USAI last year and immediately stepped forward to ensure a consistently positive player experience. Has coached nine teams and is known for initiative and organization.

Catherine Justininano Coached USAI Recreation League for 10 years, 23 teams in 20 seasons. Coach Catherine teaches soccer skills, teamwork, confidence, discipline, and sportsmanship. She also mentors new coaches.

Pete and Jenny Baenziger Always willing to help and consistently go above and beyond in support of the teams.

Barry Neuman Known for his positive attitude, flexibility, and focus on player experience.

Cameron Shine , Head Coach 2012B Red, Age Group Coordinator is USAI Travel Soccer Coach of the Year. For many years, Coach Shine demonstrates exceptional leadership, dedication, and passion in guiding a diverse group of teen-age athletes. Terrific results on the field are a direct reflection of Coach Cameron’s skill, preparation, and ability to bring out the best in players. What truly distinguishes Cam goes beyond wins and rankings. He is deeply committed to developing well-rounded young men both on and off the field. He emphasizes not only the technical and tactical aspects of the game but also sportsmanship, character, responsibility, and respect. His players are taught to represent themselves, their families, and their club with integrity at all times. Equally important is Coach Cameron’s strong emphasis on academics. He is helping players grow into confident, respectful, and motivated individuals—qualities that will serve them throughout their lives. His impact on their development is profound and lasting, making him a truly outstanding leader within youth sports.

Jose Molina, Assistant Coach, 2012B Red. Deeply engaged in the Latino community, Coach Molina has helped introduce many new players to USAI Travel Soccer. He works with players outside scheduled training, emphasizes academic and character development, and selflessly supports all teams within the 2012B age group.

Christiana Lahmon & Sara Marshall 2013B and Sarah Jackman 2010B Exceed traditional expectations through organization, fundraising, and communications. All three are truly deserving.

Julie Barker searches for activities for 2011B Blue team that will give them chances to bond and grow beyond the game. This includes a fundraiser at the Monumental Marathon; volunteering at Gleaners Food Bank. She is also the first person to welcome new families to the team and makes herself available for questions.

Brittany Heyveld exceptional example of what it means to serve youth athletes with dedication, positivity, and selflessness who embodies the spirit of youth soccer. Her commitment to USAI, the team, and the game has made an incredible impact as she represents everything that makes soccer great—teamwork, service, community, and a genuine love for helping players grow both on and off the field.

This marks a significant milestone in USAI's journey, providing our players with enhanced opportunities for development and competition. This addition strengthens USA of Indiana's comprehensive player pathway, adding another top-level layer to our competition pyramid alongside two USYS National Leagues: E64 and Great Lake Conference. This platform will expand USAI's audience to broader collegiate and professional spaces, creating additional opportunities for players and each of their futures in this sport.

Over the years, USAI has proudly seen alumni—including Ray Gaddis, Matthew Hedges, Perry Kitchen, and Lori Lindsey—rise to the professional level and represent the U.S. National Teams. Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame Inductees

Gaddis, Hedges and Kitchen Inducted to Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame, Joining Lindsey, Jordan, Jacob in USAI History

The Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame is proud to announce that it will be inducting three new members into its Hall of Fame at the 2025 Indiana Soccer Annual General Meeting and Awards Gala. Former Indiana Soccer youth players and members of the USA of Indiana Indy Burn 1990 Boys Eagles – winners of 8 straight State Championships - Ray Gaddis, Matthew Hedges and Perry Kitchen honored Saturday, February 22nd, 2025, with their full induction into the Indiana Soccer HOF.

Gaddis, a North Central High School alum and member of the USA of Indiana 1990 Indy Burn Eagles, played collegiately at West Virginia University before being selected 35th in the 2012 MLS Super Draft by Philadelphia. He was recognized as a 2012 MLS All-Rookie Best IX by Soccer by Ives, while being further recognized by earning the 2012 NAACP Image Award for Male Athlete of the Year. Gaddis was the 2020-2021 recipient of the Jerry Yeagley Award for Exceptional Personal Achievement from the United Soccer Coaches.

Hedges, a Carmel High School graduate and member of the USA of Indiana 1990 Indy Burn Eagles, is a professional soccer player who currently plays as a center back for MLS side Austin FC. Drafted 11th in the 2014 Super Draft, Hedges earned MLS Best IX honors in 2015 and 2016, and won the MLS Defender of the Year Award in 2016. Hedges made his United States Men’s National Team debut on February 8, 2015 against Panama. Overall, Hedges won a US Open Cup; MLS Supporters’ Shield; 5 USMNT caps; and an NCAA National NCAA Championship.

Kitchen played with the Chicago Magic and USA of Indiana 1990 Indy Burn Eagles prior to moving to Bradenton, Florida for a two-year residency with the USMNT U-17 team. He also joined USMNT U-20. A defensive midfielder, he was part of the 2010 NCAA Men’s Championship team at Akron University before being picked 3rd overall by DC United in the 2011 MLS Super Draft. His career included 5 USMNT caps; a US Open Cup Championship; participation in the Danish Superliga (Randers) and Scottish Premiership (Hearts of Midlothian); serving as a member of the LA Galaxy and Columbus Crew.

Lori Lindsey, a member of USAI Pike Youth Soccer Club's 1980 travel team, played professionally for 13 years. She notably represented the USWNT at the 2011 Women’s World Cup, then helped the team earn the 2012 Olympic Gold Medal in London. She attended Pike High School, where she was named NSCAA Parade All-American, then the University of Virginia from 1998 to 2001. Lindsey was the university’s first-ever Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year - an award she won twice in her tenure (‘01 & ‘02). Lindsey finished as the sixth all-time scorer in UVA history with 33 goals and 76 points and was named UVA’s Female Athlete of the Year for 2001-2002.

Rob Jordan, a long time USAI Head Coach and Board Director, is the recipient of over 40 coaching awards and holds more than 3 decades of coaching experience. He notably coached the USAI U15 G Team to a 1st place title in 2019, the same year he coached the Zionsville High School Men’s Soccer to win the IHSAA Class 3A state championship. He also helped create the “USAI Have A Ball” program, which brings soccer into P.E. classes across Indianapolis for a low cost. The program compliments the school’s P.E. educational focus on wellness while developing the physical, mental, and social well-being of each student. At the time of his induction to the Hall of Fame, Jordan’s coaching career was marked by a high school record of 452 - 140 - 51 between his time as head coach at Pike and Zionsville high schools.

Isang Jacob serves as USA of Indiana's Director of Coaching and Academy Director, holding 25 years of USAI travel coaching experience. He is a three-time All-MCC and two-time NCCAA All-American during his playing days at Indiana Wesleyan, where he graduated in 1992. He has served both as a great educator and coach. He led the USAI Indy Burn ’90 Eagles to eight straight U.S. Youth Soccer Indiana State Championships from 2002-09. In 2008, all 19 of his players earned athletic or academic scholarships to play collegiate soccer, 17 at the Division I level. He was later honored as the US Youth Soccer 2008 Adidas Competitive Coach of the Year. Jacob helped develop such players as 2025 Hall of Fame Inductees Matt Hedges (MLS and USMNT); Ray Gaddis (MLS); and Perry Kitchen (MLS and USMNT). Jacob also served as a collegiate coach at both IUPUI and Penn State.

Indiana Soccer has designed a course to ensure that the game goes on when the officiating crew is short staffed due to a no-show or late arrival. This program allows parents to step in as Club Assistant. Referees when the referee crew is short due to a no-show. The program is online and takes 10 - 15 minutes to complete. It covers the simple task of flagging balls in and out of touch, corner kicks and goal kicks. At no time will they be asked to make a call, such as a foul or offside.

Once the candidate views the 10 minute webinar and completes a ten question quiz, they will be certified.

Welcome Ray Gaddis as USAI Director of Player Development and Ambassador. Ray earned his USSF National B Coaching license and is bringing his experience as a 12 year Major League Soccer player and coach to USAI. Ray will visit each travel team to speak to players, coaches, and parents.

Ray Gaddis played USA of Indiana as a youth player notably on the USAI Indy Burn 1990 Boys Eagles 8 time State Cup Championship team. Recently Ray defended against Messi at Tourney game in Ohio.

THERE'S ONLY ONE RAY GADDIS: FC CINCINNATI'S UNSUNG HERO

Former USA of Indiana all-star and current MLS Philadelphia Union all star Ray Gaddis visited USA of Indiana teams February 16, 2021, at Sportzone. Ray spoke with the players about how working hard every day in school and on the soccer field allowed Ray and his USA of Indiana Indy Burn 1990 Eagles team mates to grow into Fine Young Men as Doctors, Dentists, Lawyers, Business leader, Teachers, Soccer Coaches and, for Ray, Matt Hedges, and Perry Kitchen, professional soccer players in MLS. Ray and Eagles Coach Isang Jacob also talked about always doing what is right when presented with racial inequalities in one's life. Ray talked about working hard to always do your best and how doing just that took him from winning 8 Indiana State Cups as an USA of Indiana Indy Burn player to being an all-star at North Central HS, West Virginia, to being drafted into the MLS by Union and playing his entire 10 year career.

"Sean McGrath is USA of Indiana Specialty Coach, and will provide team and specialized position specific trainings, camps and clinics for USA of Indiana travel teams and players based in Brownsburg, Avon, and Indianapolis."

Coach McGrath played his youth career at USA of Indiana, notably Indy Burn 1990 Boys Eagles, winners of 8 Indiana State Cups. Coach McGrath was hired as the head coach of Brownsburg High School boys soccer in December of 2021. McGrath came to Brownsburg after spending nine years as a soccer coach in Pike Township, including four years as the Pike Girls' Soccer Varsity head coach. McGrath has also led highly successful club soccer teams at United Soccer Alliance and Indy Premier.

A 2008 graduate of Pike High School, McGrath led the Pike Red Devils as a four-letter winner and member of four conference-title-winning teams during his high school playing career. McGrath was a two-time all-state selection and three-time all-conference selection as a Pike High School player. McGrath, a two-time team captain, set the Pike career assist record (68) while scoring 33 goals in his career. He started 78 consecutive games, also a school record. Following a highly decorated high school career McGrath played under legendary collegiate head coach Bobby Clark at Notre Dame from 2008-2001 and at IUPUI for one season. McGrath was a part of Notre Dame's Big East Conference championship in 2008 and in three NCAA tournament appearances 2008-2010. At IUPUI, McGrath played in 15 matches for the Jaguars during the 2012 season.

McGrath played semi-professionally for the Madison 56ers National Premier Soccer League and earned an opportunity to play for Indy Eleven, Indianapolis' professional soccer franchise. He graduated from Notre Dame with a bachelor's degree in sociology and received his masters from Indiana University in criminal justice and public safety management.
