A great resource to consider using is the Crisis Text Line or CTL. You can reach out to CTL at any time to ask advice, or your friend or loved one can reach out for support. Here's how it works. Crisis Text Line serves anyone, experiencing any difficulty, and provides access to free support and information via text. Just text the word START to 741-741 from anywhere in the U.S. A live, trained crisis counselor receives the text and quickly responds.
If your instincts tell you that someone is in crisis and needs immediate help or if you believe that they are at imminent risk of hurting themselves, consider the following:
- Stay with them while you assist them in getting help
- Call 911
- Text START to 741-741 or call 1-800-273-TALK
- Or bring them to the nearest medical Emergency Department, or,
- If someone is agitated or potentially violent, avoid putting yourself in a personally dangerous situation. Call 911 instead of trying to bring them to the hospital on your own.
